Cambodia Holds Policy Dialogue on Road Safety for Children and Adolescents

PHNOM PENH, April 10, 2024 – On May 9, a policy dialogue focused on road safety for children and adolescents was held in Phnom Penh, aimed at enhancing road safety measures and reducing accident risks for young populations in Cambodia.

The event, presided over by Minister Peng Ponea of Public Works and Transport, brought together about 50 participants from various sectors. Among them were representatives from different ministries, international development partners, the private sector, NGOs, and experts in health and traffic safety from institutions such as UNICEF and The George Institute for Global Health.

During the opening ceremony, Minister Peng Ponea expressed optimism about the dialogue's potential to foster significant discussions on the current state of road safety for children and adolescents. He emphasized the importance of collective efforts to enhance safety measures and advocated for robust policy recommendations and actions.

Participants engaged in in-depth discussions, sharing insights and proposing strategic measures to improve road safety frameworks. The dialogue highlighted the critical need for inclusive and effective policies that address the unique vulnerabilities of children and adolescents in traffic environments.

The collaborative event underscored Cambodia’s commitment to bolstering road safety and preventing accidents involving its younger citizens, reflecting a proactive approach to public health and safety challenges.
